Keeping in mind our recent discussions of conflict (man vs. nature, man vs, self, etc...), can you share an example of conflict you've read in a novel or story? Share your thoughts in the comment box and give specific details.

Halloween is coming up, and I know we're all excited about it. Nora's going to be a King Banana (don't ask, she really wanted to wear a crown), Rebecca, Isabel, and Isabella won't tell anyone what they're going to be, and I have no idea what I'm gonna be. So help me out, and give me some ideas by telling me what your going to be in the comment box.
6th grade,
What's your favorite book? Is there a novel you really enjoyed that perhaps you'd like to recommend to your classmates? Post a recommendation in the comments below... I think your friends who are having trouble picking an A.R. book will appreciate it! Hello fellow classmates,
I can’t believe that it has almost been four full weeks of school! It has gone by so fast!! I hope all of the new kids feel welcome here because this is a very good school! I have to say everyone here is so nice, the teachers and the students. I think this week was a great week of school; we are finally getting back to waking up early and going to school! I know that over the summer a few (a lot of us) slept in, so I think it is good we are getting back into routine. Mrs. Quinly rocks as a teacher! She is so nice and I love 6th grade. I am so excited about the service project we are doing! I think it is great that we are going to make a difference. I wanted to remind the people that don’t have recorders to get them soon because we will need them every Tuesday. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend because we have got a lot of stuff to do this upcoming weekend! 6TH GRADE ROCKS!!!!!!!! CYA in school, Alexandra Dear Assumption Students,
Just a reminder to Assumption School that the swine flu is almost going to hit here any moment! But no need to worry, just follow the procedure that I give you. Step 1. Always wash your hands before and after you eat your food. Step 2. When you are about to sneeze or cough you sneeze or cough on your elbow not on your hand or get a tissue and sneeze in it. Step 3. Just be cautious of what is ahead of you! I just want everyone to be safe in this school. I really care about the students here and want to make sure that none of my fellow students will get sick this year. All you have to worry about is doing well in school and taking anything that will take care of the bacteria, for example, hand sanitizers! Remember to stay on task and to stay healthy. Thank you very much! Sincerely, Brianna 6th grade,
Thank you so much for another amazing week! I have to say, I was so impressed with your service project ideas presented today in class. I thought it would be fun to share some more ideas in our comments. I know some of you are reluctant to speak up in class, maybe you will feel more comfortable sharing your suggestions here! Our two winning ideas were: 1. Support a local animal shelter by providing donations, volunteering and raising awareness about pet adoptions. 2. Work towards raising awareness about various endangered species and habitat destruction. These are great goals... so how will we accomplish them? I look forward to reading your ideas... -Mrs. Quinly A cowboy came to town on Friday, stayed 3 days and left on Friday, how is that possible?????
:) :) Think you can figure it out? Lets see! 6th grade,
Since we'll be reviewing our summer reading this week, I thought I would post some questions here for you to consider. These first questions are about the novel we read by Elizabeth George Speare. You don't have to answer them all (unless, of course, you want to!)... but I would love to read your thoughts. Some things to think about... In the novel, Kit comes to Wethersfield from Barbados. What are some differences bewteen her two homes (old and new)? Where would you prefer to live? Life in a colonial setting was extremely difficult and fraught with many hardships. How do you think the witchcraft scare was used to make sense of these hardships? Can you sympathize with the people of Wethersfield or understand why they were afraid of "witches?" Can you think of ways that COMPASSION influenced the outcome of the novel? Which characters were the most compassionate? How and why? If you could summarize the theme of the novel in one word, what would it be? 6th graders... we've got a full week of assessments ahead of us!
