How has listening to the debates helped you to understand the controversy of the Parthenon Marbles? Have you changed your position, or has your viewpoint been strengthened? Discuss!!
I think that listening to the parthenon marbles debates has left me 50-50. When I began, I felt that Britain was the side to be on, but now I'm not so sure.Everyone is putting up a good argument, and I feel lost. But still, I think I understand why this argument has been going on for some time. It might go on for a while longer.

Listening to the debates helped really understand the story more. Many clever points I didn't think of myself were brought up. I think each side had very good arguements so its very hard to decide. Even though I'm on the side of Greece some really good points were made by the class mates on the british side which ALMOST changed my view point. Listening to the debates was really fun and to actually debate myself was fun too. I can't wait for the next debate!

Sam, If a debate is done well by both teams, we will walk away exactly as you describe, feeling "50/50." Since our class has done such a great job, it's hard to choose a side!
Max, I think I almost had my mind changed a couple times, too! That's why it is so important to be an informed audience member... so we aren't swayed by distracting arguments, but convinced by good ones!

After listening to the debates I am still on the side of Britain. Some of Greece's arguments were strong, but not strong enough to change my point of view. I think that the people on Britain's side should say somehting new. Everybody should mention something new, but if you can't, you can't. I am not on 100% Britain's side though. I have more than 50% favor in Britain, so I say that I am still on the side of Britain.

After listening to my classmates arguments I feel that I am still on the side of the Greece but Britain gave some very important topics that I would never think of.It's hard for me to tell which side I'm on after hearing all the strong arguments from my classmates.

From listening to the debate, I kind of agree with both sides. Everyone has brought up many amazing topics and rebuttals that I myself would never ever think of and even some of the opposing team's arguments were very well thought which made me feel both sides were right. Many of the opposing team's arguments were very strong but I still find myself on Greece's side and understand the debate more.

Listening to the debates has made my understanding of the marbles change.I also heard some strong arguments from both sides. My belief ,however, that Britain should keep the marbles is still strong ,and I have not been persuaded otherwise.

I am still on Greece's side, though. I have been swayed by the British's side by their great arguments. I think I will still feel strongly towards Greece but Britain has had some really convincing arguments.

I also felt like the debate went in circles and the same thing was brought up in new ways with different words.

Britain and Greece should both make peace and forget that anything ever happened. This will never get resolved.

When we first were starting the Parthenon Marbles debate, I was for England. Then, as I learned more I moved to Greece. After all of the debates (including mine) I see the different points each team is making and then I sometimes think, " Should I have stayed on England's side?" or " I am happy that I made a trade to the side of Greece." Each team for the debate did great. The arguments were convincing, but I wish I could go up and debate again because it's so much fun... Do you agree?

Our class has done wonderful debates and I have enjoyed them. One or two times, Greece persuaded me but in the end I stayed on Britians side because their arguements were just more convincing. Also, I felt stronger towards Britian.

Listening and partaking in it was really fun. Many important facts were stated. After hearing many of the points stated by both sides I still feel strongly for Greece but I am also supporting Britain. Everyone is persuading me, so I think they are all doing well. P.S. For all those who haven't gone good luck!!!!!!!

Listening to all of the debates helped me to understand the controversy of the parthenon marbles because when I hear all of the arguments,it helps me know more about the Parthenon Marbles. Also when I hear my teammate's arguments it helps me to know more of why Greece want's the Parthenon Marbles back. I am still on Greece's side but when I hear the arguments of Britain I feel persuaded because of the great arguments they have.

Our class has presented awesome debates! I am still on Britain's side because I believe they have complete ownership of the marbles and overall I think their arguments were more convincing. Greece has had really good points though, and I can't wait to debate tomorrow!

Listening to the debates really made me think about how important they are to each country. When I was up there, some of the arguments were very strong so I was stuck on what to say. listening to my classmates going back and forth was fun to follow. These debates are turning out to be a success. I'm still hanging on to Britan!

Listening to the debates and partcicipating in one has helped me learn how much each country values the marbles. Listening to the debates of the other team has strengthened my viewpoint because after the people state an argument in my head I say something like "That's not true" then I think about my view of what they said. It helps me realize things that I never really thought about. Some of the things the other team said made me think that they could belong to anyone, and I understand the actual debate and how hard it would be to make the decision.

I think that both sides were really strong and passionate about which ever side they were on. But I think that some people didn't know how to explain their point including me for a lot of the times that I explained things. I am not sure what side I am on really now that I have heard so may strong points but I believe more in Greece than I do in England.

When we first started researching the Parthenon Marbles I felt that the British side was right to take the marbles. When I started researching more about the Parthenon Marbles I changed sides from Britian to England. I am not quite sure who they belong to now. This whole discussion is a difficult topic to just pick one side and to stick with it. I don't know which side is right!?!

After all of the debates, I have been more and more on the side of Britain. All I have to do is listen to the supporters of Greece. When I hear an argument, I immediately laugh on the inside and come up with a defensive argument. I wish I could rebuttal from my seat!

Well, listening to the debates i have my viewpoint strengthened. It made me rethink my arguments but.. i still think Greece should have them. I also like the way we are debating even when i am a little mad that when you're in the audience you can't say anything. I had to fight the urge to yell out a point.

I have not really changed my view on the Parthenon Marbles. I am still for England, though the debates have opened my eyes to the fact that there is another side to the argument and that maybe Greece is right, though I still stand by England.

I have not switched over to the British side. British had some strong apposing arguments that wrere well thaught through but i think that England should return the marbles to where they originally stood in the Parthenon.

Listening to the debate has helped me understand the controversey of the parthenon marbles because listening to both sides come up with good points help me see both points on each side. My view has not changed but i did feel a little persuaded. I also felt my arguements have gotten stronger and have been more creative. I will also try to make my arguements stronger and do my best!!!

I started on the Greeks side at first. During the debate, a lot of good points by the British side persuaded me to go on their side. But coming towards the end of each debate, each side said the same thing over and over again. At the end, I still think the Greeks should have the Parthenon Marbles.

Listening to the debates,I think that Britain should win because of all of the key points that they have given. Each key point that Greece has given they stay on that point for the whole entire debate. Each key point that Britain has given, has balanced out the debate. They have said why they should keep the marbles, why they belong to them, and why they should keep them. That is why I think Britain should win the debate.

After listening to the other debates, I learned more than I researched! The other teams brought up many different topics. The team I was against, was only sticking to the topic of traveling. In the first debate, when Max and Trevor were doing their rebuttal, I felt like moving to Greece's side, but Alex and Grant's team reassured me that the Parthenon Marbles are better off in the British Museum.

I agree with Meryl we were only sticking to the same subject, traveling. I think that theres much more important thing to say. Traveling isn't the best issue and were making it seem like it is. Thanks for saying that Meryl, but I don't really know how to change the subject

Your welcome, Angelica. :D I already said this in the debate, but I'll say it again. : Greece - Give back the Elgin Marbles because the world can get a fuller interpretation and understanding of them. Britain - If the marbles are given back, the Parthenon with not be complete. Other marbles have been taken and given back, but the smallest thing matters, right? Some marbles are lost and broken and can be never found.
